Venus and the Cat is Bruce Thomson's companion plate to The Cat and Venus, retelling Aesop's fable of the cat changed by the goddess into a woman who cannot resist chasing a mouse.

Where the fable turns on instinct outlasting form, his line keeps the figure caught between the two. It hangs beside The Cat and Venus in his Aesop's fables etchings.
